Indradhanush 2026 - Folk Dances of the World - Joy of Life

Indradhanush: Our signature annual event of Indo American Cultural Connect (IACCONNECT), celebrating the rich diversity of Indian classical and global folk dances. We aim to spotlight Folk Dances from Around the World, paying tribute to traditional styles that are rapidly fading in today’s modern era. Through this initiative, it is our humble attempt to preserve, revive, and reignite interest in these treasured art forms, ensuring they continue to inspire future generations.

Bhangra is a type of traditional folk dance of Punjab area of the Indian subcontinent. According to Manuel (2001), bhangra is especially associated with the vernal Vaisakhi festival, performed during harvest season between April and the first quarter of May.
In a typical performance, several dancers execute vigorous kicks, leaps, and bends of the body—often with upraised, thrusting arm or shoulder movements—to the accompaniment of short songs called boliyan and, most significantly, to the beat of a dhol (double-headed drum).



Raas or Dandiya Raas is the socio-religious folk dance originating from Indian state of Gujarat and popularly performed in the festival of Navaratri. The dance is performed in the Marwar region of Rajasthan too. The etymology of Dandiya-Raas is in Sanskrit -Dandiya-raas exists in the different forms, including the collegiate competitive form. The dance style is now in a competitive format and a traditional format.
